The United Republic of Tanzania FIU delegation concluded last week their official visit to the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Unit.

This visit came with the aim of reviewing the Kingdom’s distinguished experience in exiting the FATF Gray List and achieving the desired results from the action plan before the expiration of the deadline specified for this plan. The delegation was briefed according to the agenda on the progress of work and the role of the unit in implementing the provisions of the action plan that was drawn up by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). The agenda of this visit was based on the unit’s work in Strategic and Operational analysis, the systems in force at the unit, management of the local and international cooperation file, and management of the unit to implement the FATF plan in particular.

During the 7-day visit, the delegation met with a number of experts from the unit in various fields to obtain detailed information and benefit from their experience during the process of getting off the list. Methods of increasing the efficiency of the unit’s work and the anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing system were also discussed, in an attempt to benefit from the Jordanian experience in this field.

Ms. Samya Abu Sharif, Head of the Unit, expressed during several meetings with the delegation her delight in hosting the delegation, she also expressed her gratitude for the choosing the Jordanian unit with the aim of benefiting from its experience, and that this selection is a medal of recognition for the efforts that were made to achieve great results and emerge from the Gray List successfully.

The delegation was also briefed on the Kingdom’s experience in conducting the specialized sectoral assessments that the Kingdom recently issued, in addition to the Kingdom’s experience in implementing Security Council resolutions related to terrorism, its financing, and proliferation, role of the Technical Committee that is headed by the Unit and the Executive Secretariat role in implementing Targeted Financial Sanctions.
